How Will the Major European Leagues Conclude Their Season?

Tragedy struck all over the world as the coronavirus pandemic has put on hold some of the biggest sports tournaments in the world. With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics postponed as well as Euro 2020 put at a different date, football around Europe has been put on hold as well.

But the priority has been given to all major European leagues. UEFA has put a request for all leagues around Europe to try and find ways to bring their 2020 season to a close in a manner they deem safe. They are supposed to do this until August 2, so both the Champions League could continue as well as the Europa League.

Here are some of the solutions that they came up with.

Premier League (England)

The English Premier League is supposed to restart on June 17. The end date is 26 July. At this point, Liverpool is in their dream season and is racing towards their first Premier League title in 30 years. But the battle for the top four is also going to be an interesting one to see.

As far as the FA Cup final goes, it is scheduled for August 1. The next season is supposed to kick off on September 12.

La Liga (Spain)

The Spanish league is going to continue on June 11 and should conclude by July 19. Before the break, Barcelona and Real Madrid were in another clinch battle for the La Liga title. Atletico Madrid and Seville are the additional teams that might make a push for Champions League spots.

But a peculiar situation emerged with the Copa del Rey as the finalists are Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao. This is the first time the Basque derby is played in the finals and both clubs want it to be played in front of fans. The final is still postponed to an unknown date.

Next season starts on September 12.

Serie A (Italy)

The Italian Serie A is coming back on June 20 and will finish somewhere around the weekend of August 1st or 2nd.  Juventus are the prime candidates for retaining the title but Lazio has thrown its hat into the ring as well.

The finals of the Coppa Italia is scheduled for June 17 and is going to be played between Juventus and Napoli.

The 2021 Serie A season will start on September 12.

Bundesliga (Germany)

The German league was the first one to restart amount all the major five leagues in Europe. The 2020 season was backtrack on May 16 and is set to finish on June 27.

Bayern Munich, the defending champions, are more than likely going to win their newest trophy as it seems that Borussia Dortmund still doesn’t have what it takes to bear them.

Bayern Munich has a chance to go for a double and win the DFB Pokal against Bayer Leverkusen on July 4.

The upcoming Bundesliga season will start on September 12.

Ligue 1 (France)

Ligue 1 was the first major European league to get completely canceled. The decision was made for the French league to end on a points-per-game basis. This meant that Paris Saint-Germain was the champion for the seventh time in a row.

Marseille qualifies for a direct spot in the Champions League while Stade Rennes making it to the qualification rounds. Lille and Nice will go directly to the Europa League group round. The relegated teams are Amiens and Toulouse.

However, Coupe de France between PSG and Saint-Etienne will be played on July 24, while Coupe de la Ligue final between PSG and Lyon is set for July 31.
