Manchester United’s unbeaten EPL record came to the most surprising of ends when they fell to deserved defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have now beaten three of the EPL’s top four at Molineux this season, despite being bottom of the table.

Despite taking a third-minute lead, United were never comfortable, conceding an equaliser seven minutes later, falling behind before half-time and thereafter unable to breach Wolves’ rock-solid defence.

United suffered a pre-match setback when centre-back Rio Ferdinand succumbed to injury in the warm-up.

But Nani put them ahead when he cut inside George Elokobi and lashed a left-foot shot past Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessy’s left hand at his near post from 12 yards.

Elokobi turned the tables on ten minutes, heading home Matt Jarvis’s cross from the left after a short corner routine caught United’s defence off-guard.

United keeper Edwin Van der Sar saved Jamie O’Hara’s near-post drive as United continue to doze.

Wolves went ahead five minutes before the break, Nenad Milijas’s free-kick from the right headed home by a combination of Elokobi’s shoulder and Kevin Doyle’s head – Doyle getting the last touch.

And United created little in the second half as Wolves held on for a famous victory.
