Wolves 0-2 ChelseaDrogba 40, 67 Chelsea’s lead at the top of the EPL is now four points after this Didier Drogba -inspired win at improved Wolves. It was a below-par display from Carlo Ancelotti’s men, however, with captain John Terry again out-of-sorts. And they were as grateful for goalkeeper Petr Cech’s shot-stopping prowess as anything Drogba delivered at the other end. Indeed, Drogba’s clinching second goal came direct from Cech’s drop-kick over the top of a disorganised Wolves defence who undermined in seconds over an hour’s good work by the rest of the side. Livewire Irish international striker Kevin Doyle forced Petr Cech into two routine saves in the opening half before Cech helped break the deadlock. His throw-out began a pitch-length move, and a neat one-two between full-back Yuri Zhirkov and Michael Ballack opened up the defence for Zhirkov to cross low to the far post where Drogba slid the ball home from close range. Cech was equal to Wolves’ more testing second half efforts, his best saves from Adlene Guedioura’s left-foot volley on 55 minutes and Kevin Foley seven minutes later. And on 67 minutes, Chelsea sealed victory, Wolves keeper Marcus Hannemann tripping as he attempted to prevent Drogba’s left-foot shot rolling over the line.
