Wigan Athletic 1-1 Fulham

Fulham's tryst with late goals continued as they conceded yet another equalizer late in the game to drop two points against a lackluster Wigan team in their Premiership clash on Saturday.

Fulham had taken an early lead through Clint Dempsey in the 11th minute and were further relieved as England hero Emile Heskey was unable to build up on his recent form and had to limp of the field in the 9th minute. However Jason Koumas snatched a point for Wigan in the 80th minute after converting from the penalty spot.

Fulham started the game brightly and created the first chance of the match when Hameur Bouazza raced past David Cotterill and Melchiot but his resultant shot flew just wide of the post. The hosts received a blow in the 9th minute when Heskey limped off the field following an ankle injury and was replaced by Marcus Bent.

The visitors took the lead in the 11th minute when he controlled Diomansy Kamara's cross before smashing the ball past Chris Kirkland to score Fulham's 100th goal in the Premiership. Carlos Bocanegra could have doubled the lead for the visitors, but saw his header go over the bar from close range.

Though Wigan had a fair share of the possession, they were unable to supply the final pass to their strikers as Antti Niemi spent a relatively relaxed time in the first half. Kirkland had to be at his best as he pulled off great saves to deny Simon Davies and Aaron Hughes soon after the start of second half.

Fulham had one last chance to double the lead when Dempsey played a delightful one-two with Kamara but was unable to beat Kirkland. With Wigan increasingly looking unable to break the Fulham defense, lady luck smiled on the hosts as they were awarded a penalty following Bouazza's tackle on Melchiot inside the penalty box and the chance was gleefully converted by Koumas, leaving both the teams with one point each.
