Wigan Athletic 1-4 ArsenalArsenal continued their excellent run of form in the Premier League with a thumping 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic on Saturday. Both the teams were tentative at the start and it was Wigan who managed to achieve an early breakthrough thanks to a defensive mistake by Arsenal. Keeper Lukas Fabianski failed to reach Ben Watson's corner in time, allowing Emmerson Boyce to flick the ball and though Bacary Sagna reached the ball first, his poor clearance flew straight to Mido who made no mistake from close range. Arsenal were struggling to create chances and instead it was Wigan who went close to scoring a second when Watson's curling free kick smashed against the post. The Gunners stepped up the pressure in the second half and were rewarded in the 61st minute when Andrei Arshavin crossed the ball for Theo Walcott who smashed the ball into the top corner of the net to pull his side back on level terms. Mikel Silvestre got into the action 10 minutes later when Cesc Fabregas found the defender with a brilliant ball and the Frenchman was left with an easy chance from six yards out. The game was all but over in the final minute when Arshavin doubled the lead with a simple tap in while Alexandre Song completed the rout with a fourth in injury time.
