Wigan Athletic 1-0 TottenhamWigan Athletic registered a fourth straight league win to secure a hard fought 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Wigan manager Steve Bruce made seven changes to his squad that lost 3-1 to Tottenham in the FA Cup. The visitors almost took the lead right at the start when a horrendous error by Chris Kirkland saw him drop the ball into the feet of Michael Dawson but the Wigan keeper recovered in time to deflect the shot away to safety. With Wigan conceding just one goal in their last three matches, it was always a very difficult task for Tottenham to break past a stubborn Wigan defense with Kirkland having a comfortable first half after his early error. The second half started with another goalkeeping error, this time Gomes making a hash of a simple clearance with the ball going straight to Ryan Taylor who failed to trouble the Spurs keeper. Amr Zaki had a couple of decent chances but managed to shoot off target on both the occasions. Just when it looked as if both the teams will be sharing the points, Wigan snatched the winner right in the injury time when Maynor Figueroa headed home from a corner to collect all three points for his side.
