West Ham 0-2 Manchester CitySven Goran Eriksson got off to a perfect start in the English Premier League as his Manchester City team outplayed West Ham to a 2-0 loss at Upton Park on Saturday. Eriksson started with five of his new signings, including Vedran Corluka, Elano, Martin Petrov, Javier Garrido and Rolando Bianchi making it to the starting line up while Deiberson Geovanni and Valeri Bojinov were on the bench. It was Bianchi that put City in the lead after just 18 minutes when he latched on to a cross from Elano at the far past and slid home the ball into the net. West Ham looked out of sorts and were unable to muster a strong response. The Hammers came out strongly after the break and Kasper Schmeichel had to be alert to deny Ljungberg while Micah Richards did well to clear Ljungberg's cross into the area. Dea Aston got the best chance to score for West Ham when volley went just wide off the post. The game was over for West ham when City doubled the lead in the 87th minute through substitute Geovanni who smashed home an angled drive from the edge of the area. With City fans expectant of a top half finish with an outside chance of qualifying for Europe, Eriksson will be hopeful that his team continues the winning streak against Derby County when the two teams meet on Wednesday. West Ham next face Steve Bruce's Birmingham City on August 18. Watch Premiership live action here on free-football.tv.
