The visitors finally drew level in the 66th with as West ham made a defensive error of their own when Green raced forward to punch a free kick only to see Dawson head the ball into an empty net.
West Ham came close to taking the lead near the finish as Scott Parker and Dean Ashton both saw their shots saved brilliantly by Robinson while Jenas cleared a George McCartney header off the line. Defoe won a penalty for Spurs in the dying seconds of the match after he was fouled by Lucas Neill in the area but was unable to beat Green to dived the right way to palm the ball out of danger.
