The hosts nearly completed a league double over the Gunners, thanks to an early setpiece goal and another Arsenal defensive howler. Arsenal were behind within three minutes when Steven Reid headed home Chris Brunt’s left-wing corner from the edge of the six-yard box. Arsenal nearly levelled in the 25th minute. Robin Van Persie headed Gael Clichy’s cross against the crossbar and West Brom keeper Scott Carson blocked Jack Wilshere’s follow-up. Chris Brunt nearly doubled the Baggies advantage on 54 minutes, side-footing Marek Cech’s cross wide after a fine passing move. But they were two-up four minutes later. Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia rushed from goal to intercept Youssof Mulumbu’s long ball and Peter Odemwingie nipped in between him and Sebastien Squillaci to find an empty net from the edge of the box. Andrei Arshavin fired a spectacular left-foot shot past Carson from 12 yards to give the Gunners renewed hope on 70 minutes. And eight minutes later, they equalised after Nicklas Bendtner’s far-post header from Arshavin’s left-wing cross rebounded off the post to Van Persie, who bundled the ball in.
