West Bromwich Albion 1-0 FulhamWest Bromwich Albion continued their impressive start to the season with a second straight league win as they beat Fulham 1-0 at the Hawthorns on Saturday.
After a quiet first half, West Brom took the lead just past the hour mark through Roman Bednar and the Czech international could and should have extended the lead late in the game as Fulham failed to muster up a response.
The Baggies were high on confidence following their 1-0 win away to Middlesbrough last weekend and came close to taking an early lead when Bednar raced forward to meet Jonathan Greening's through ball but was only able to hit his shot straight to Mark Schwarzer.
The Fulham defenders were struggling to contain Greening whose driving run into the opposition penalty area was blocked by Aaron Hughes. Zoltan Gera had a great chance to score against his former club but saw his shot fly just wide of the target as both the teams stepped up the tempo in search of a goal.
Greening continued to pull strings in the second half and Donk nearly scored for West Brom with a header. The hosts took a deserved lead in the 61st minute when Donk saw his shot from a corner blocked by the Fulham defense but the ball went straight to Bednar who slotted the ball past Schwarzer to put his side in the lead.
Fulham pressed forward in search of an equalizer and though Danny Murphy, Clint Dempsey and Seol Ki-Hyeon all went close for the visitors, they were unable to hit the target as Fulham slumped to their fourth straight defeat.
