Tottenham Hotspur 1-4 Newcastle UnitedNewcastle United continued their revival under Kevin Keegan with a thumping 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Tottenham took the lead midway through the first half through Darren Bent but Newcastle United equalized on the stroke of half time through Nicky Butt. Geremi put Newcastle in the lead seven minutes into the second half while goals from Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins completed the rout.
Newcastle almost took the lead in the 5th minute when Habib Beye's stinging drive smashed against the post. However Spurs settled down and were soon in front through Bent who rose high to head home Steed Malbranque's cross from the left flank.
The visitors were struggling to create any chances in the first half but were back on level terms on the stroke of half time when Butt's optimistic shot somehow found the back of the net. Newcastle then took the lead in the 52nd minute when Geremi curled in a delightful free kick past Robinson and into the net.
Viduka then went close to doubling the lead but Robinson pulled off a good save to deny the striker. However the Spurs keeper was powerless to stop Owen minutes later and the England striker slotted home his third goal in as many matches to put his side in a strong position.
Owen went close to scoring his second of the match after racing past the Spurs defense but only managed to hit his effort high over the cross bar. Martins made it 4-1 in the 83rd minute as he raced past Teemu Tainio to slot home past Robinson. Tags: Newcastle United, Tottenham, Michael Owen, Spurs, Teemu Tainio Posted: |
