Tottenham Hotspur 1-4 ArsenalKeane 49 Lansbury 15 Nasri (2 pens) 92, 96 Arshavin 105 (after extra-time, 90 mins score: 1-1)
Three goals in the first half of extra-time, including two Samr Nasri penalties gave Arsenal a Carling Cup victory over North London arch-rivals Spurs. Both sides fielded out-and-out second strings with Arsenal’s selection marginally the more experienced. But all they had to show for their first-half dominance was Henri Lansbury’s 15th-minute strike, sliding the impressive Jack Wilshere’s cross home right-footed from five yards.
And Spurs were level four minutes after the break. They increased their experience levels on the pitch with the half-time introductions of Aaron Lennon and Robbie Keane. And the latter equalised when he turned on Kyle Naughton’s through-ball and slotted home from the edge of the box. Keane looked a yard offside, however. And Arsenal keeper Lukasz Fabianski should have stopped the low right-footed shot. But the Gunners sealed victory in the first six minutes of extra-time when Nasri stroked home two penalties. The first came on 92 minutes after he had his own shirt pulled by Sebastien Bassong and the second was awarded for Steven Caulker’s clumsy challenge on Marouane Chamakh. Spurs’ David Bentley headed a glorious opportunity wide from six yards before Andrei Arshavin completed the scoring with a left-foot drive from Wilshere’s quick free-kick.
