Tottenham 3-1 Stoke City

Tottenham Hotspur secured their first Premier League win in over seven matches when they beat Stoke City 3-1 on Tuesday.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp paired Roman Pavlyuchenko with Jermain Defoe up front and the two striker wrreacked havoc on the Stoke defense as Spurs took complete control of the proceedings early in the match.

Tottenham got an early breakthrough in the 8th minute when Aaron Lennon easily beat Andy Wilkinson, moved into the penalty area before slotting the ball past Thomas Sorensen to score his second goal of the season.

Stoke were struggling to keep out repeated Tottenham attacks and the hosts managed to breach Stoke's defense for the second time in the 21st minute with a brilliant link up between Luka Modric and Pavlyuchenko and the Russian striker passed the ball for Defoe who made no mistake from close range.

Tottenham added a third in the 24th minute when Modric crossed the ball from a short corner and Michael Dawson headed home from just six yards out. Defoe came close to adding a fourth but his goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by Wilkinson.

An improved performance from Stoke in the second half saw them reduce the deficit through James Beattie in the 57th minute but the Spurs defense hung on to claim all three points from the game to move further away from the drop zone.
