Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool finished another season without domestic silverware with a commendable 2-0 win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Andriy Voronin and Fernando Torres sealed the win for manager Rafael Benitez who will be left ruing what might have been a good season for the Reds had they made it to the Champions League finals.

The first 45 minutes of the game reflected the pointlessness of the game because both teams had little to play for with Liverpool having already cemented the 4th spot and Tottenham being off the boil after the Carling Cup win.

Both managers looked on in the first half with barely disguised impatience wanting it all to end. It was in the second half that the game sprang to life when Voronin opened the scoring mid-way through the second period.

Torres' flick-on was nicely anticipated by Voronin on 69 minutes and his dink left Radek Cerny a mere spectator. Berbatov replied almost immediately for Tottenham, but Jose Reina in the Liverpool goal was alert enough to spoil the effort.

Liverpool sealed the game through Torres who scored his 24th goal of the campaign by single handedly running through the Tottenham defence. Torres had a chance to steal his second goal of the game, but his chip failed to find the net.

Liverpool could have gone 3-0 up, but Cerny saved an Alan Hutton shot, which could have resulted in an own goal very late on in the game.
