Tottenham 0 - 0 WiganTottenham Hotspur continued their miserable start to the season with a 0-0 draw against Wigan Athletic at the White Hart Lane. The draw only served to increase pressure on Spurs coach Juande Ramos who, if media reports are to be believed, is homesick and wants to return to Spain.
The draw also means Tottenham continue to remain at the bottom of the Premier League table. The game itself began on a dour note and descended into a boring affair after it became evident that Spurs are badly missing a quality striker upfront. The departure of Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov has weakened the Spurs immensely and this was evident as they failed to break Wigan's defense at any point of time.
Roman Pavlyuchenko and David Bentley appear short of ideas and it is very clear even to the casual observer that Spurs are not yet playing as a team.
Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland was on hand to prevent any attacks launched by Spurs on his goal. The first half was of poor quality with just two shots worthy of mention. Darren Bent took a intuitive shot, which was saved by Kirkland, while at the other end Paul Scharner forced Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes to make a diving save.
It was in the 64th minute that some passion was injected into the game after Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa appeared to trip Aaron Lennon. However referee Steve Tanner ignored appeals for a penalty. This seemed to infuriate Spurs who then unleashed a volley of attacks on Wigan's goal.
Jamie O'Hara, Darren Bent and Gareth Bale all had decent shots at goal late on, but Kirkland foiled all attempts to give the visitors a well-earned draw. Tags: Tottenham Hotspur, Robbie Keane, Wigan, Maynor Figueroa Posted: |
