Sunderland 2-1 West Ham

Sunderland moved seven points clear off the relegation zone with their second straight league win as they triumphed 2-1 over West Ham on Saturday.

West Ham had taken an early lead through Fredrik Ljungberg in the 18th minute but Kenwyne Jones equalized for Sunderland on the half hour mark before Andy Reid opened his account for his new club in a dramatic fashion by snatching the winner in the final minute of the match.

Buoyed by their first away win a week before, Sunderland came out all guns blazing and very nearly took the lead in the 4th minute when Michael Chopra's shot went inches wide of the post. However West Ham soon settled down and took the lead in the 18th minute when Carlton Cole's square pass was smashed home by Ljungberg.

The goal stunned Sunderland back to action and 10 minutes later the Black Cats were back on level terms Jones latched on to a pass by Murphy before slotting it past Green to score his first goal of 2008.

West Ham were nearly retook the lead before half time when Cole curled the ball towards the target but Craig Gordon pulled off a brilliant save to deny the striker. Sunderland stepped up the pressure in the second half as Murphy, Danny Collins, Reid and Richardson all went close to score the goal.

With time running out it looked as if both the teams will have to share the points but Andy Reid snatched the winner in the final minute of the match with a right footed drive to smash it past the outstretched hands of Green and into the net to give his side all three points from the clash.
