Steaua Bucuresti 0-2 Sevilla

Sevilla moved just one victory away from clinching qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Steaua Bucharesti.

Renato scored on the either side of half time to cap an impressive performance to pull Sevilla on the brink of qualifying to the knockout stages after recovering from a poor start to the group stage in their first Champions League campaign. Sevilla can now qualify to the next stage if they win against Arsenal in their next match or avoid defeat to Slavia in the final match of the group stage.

The Spanish club were in control right from the final whistle but Steaua managed to hold out in the opening minutes of the game. Renato had a great chance to put Sevilla in the lead as early as in the 10th minute but saw his shot from outside the penalty area fly inches wide of the target.

However he got his goal in the 25th minute when keeper Robinson Zapata clearance of Christian Poulsen's header went straight to Renato and the Brazilian midfielder made no mistake in smashing the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area. The visitors went close to doubling the lead two minutes later but Poulsen once again saw his header miss the target.

Frederic Kanoute got into the act in the final minute of the first half when he was played in by Aquivaldo Mosquera but was unable to hit the target from the edge of the area. Sevilla doubled the lead through a superb move on the right wing that saw Daniel Alves race past three Steaua Bucuresti defenders before leaving the ball for Jesus Navas to cross for Renato who bagged his second of the match with a great diving header.

With Steaua unable to come up with any kind of response, it was Sevilla all the way who held on to their two goal lead to finish the match as comfortable winners.
