Slovenia 1-0 Belarus

Slovenia moved to the fourth place in Group G as they defeated Belarus 1-0 in their Euro 2008 qualifying clash in Celje on Wednesday.

Klemen Lavric was the hero for Slovenia as he converted a second-minute penalty to send the home fans into rapture. Lavric was brought down by Pavel Plaskonny in the penalty area and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot early on.

Larvic calmly put the ball past Belarus goalkeeper Vladimir Gaev thus registering his fourth goal of Slovenia's Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Valter Birsa had a chance to double the advantage for the hosts, but his long range effort harmlessly went wide off the post.

Next to try his luck was Dalibor Stevanovič, but Gaev saw to it that he did not pose a danger to the Belarus goal. Andraž Kirm then unleashed a fierce shot from the left of the area, but was unable to hit the target.

Timofei Kalachev finally set the attacks for Belarus, but his penetrating runs were of no avail. One of his shots sailed over the crossbar, while another found Sergei Kornilenko, whose shot was blocked by Slovenia goalkeeper Samir Handanovič.

Meanwhile Belarus had a shock in the second half as Artyom Radkov was sent off after he committed two bookable offences inside two minutes late in the second half. Slovenia's Milivoje Novakovič had a chance to kill the game late in the second half, but was unable to capitalize on this chance.

Slovenia are on the fourth spot in Group G with 10 points from nine games, while Belarus are on the sixth spot with seven points from nine matches.
