Slavia Prague 0-0 Arsenal

Slavia Prague played with resolute mind as they sought to erase memories of a 7-0 rout at the Emirates Stadium on their visit to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League. The Czech side battled hard to hold Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at the Evzena Rosickeho Stadium on Wednesday.

The Gunners were frustrated and were never allowed to play the free flowing football that we are accustomed to seeing from them. Arsene Wenger's 100th match in charge at the highest European level was not a memorable one, but the Gunners boss will be happy his side got the job done.

Alexander Hleb and Cesc Fabregas did not travel to Prague and it was clear Wenger was focusing on bigger games ahead. However Arsenal still made a bright start with Nicklas Bendtner making his full debut on the Champions League stage.

For Slavia Prague the chance came early on as Mickael Tavares had a free header in the six-yard box, but was unable to keep it down. Zdenek Senkerik had another chance on 36 minutes when he took advantage of an error by William Gallas, but his fierce shot was tipped over by Gunners goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.

After the break, pitch play was difficult as rains had soaked up the surface. It was a scrappy game as players were unable to control the skidding ball. Senkerik took a tumble in the box on 50 minutes after being collared by Lassana Diarra, but the referee waved away penalty claims from the home side.

David Kalivoda replaced Vladimir Smicer for Slavia Prague on 64 minutes as the home side sought to up the tempo. Kalivoda created a great chance on 75 minutes when he sent a long pass toward Senkerik and just when it looked like he would put the home side ahead Almunia came out to save the Gunners.

Wenger sent Emmanuel Adebayor in place of Bendtner as the visitors searched for a last minute winner, but that was not to be and both sides have to be satisfied with a point each. However a point was enough for Arsenal to go through to the knock out stages of the Champions League.

Arsenal top Group H with 10 points from 4 games, while Slavia Prague are third with four points from four games.
