Portsmouth 0-1 Tottenham HotspurTottenham Hotspur registered their first away win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Portsmouth in their Premiership clash on Saturday.
Dimitar Berbatov bagged a late goal with a simple tap in at the far post just nine minutes from the final whistle as Tottenham registered its second successive win to move up the league table. Pompey came close to taking the lead through David Nugent but were unable to find the net for the fourth time in five home games.
Tottenham created a majority of the chances in the first half with Darren Bent twice coming close to breaking the deadlock but missed the target from the edge of the penalty area. Kevin Boateng had a great chance to put Spurs in the lead but shot straight to David James in spite of having time to pick his spot.
Portsmouth's first chance of the match fell to Sulley Muntari with Robinson doing well to hold on to a low driven free kick. Spurs came out attacking in the second half and James had to be alert to clear a dangerous cross by Aaron Lennon with Bent breathing down the Pompey keeper's neck.
With time running out, Spurs took the lead in the 81st minute when Lennon found Berbatov at the far post with a perfect cross and the Bulgarian striker made no mistake from close range to put the ball into the net. Defoe had a great chance of doubling the lead in the closing minutes but was only able to hit the post and Tottenham played out the remaining time to grab a much deserved victory.
