Portsmouth 3 - 2 Blackburn Rovers

Portsmouth registered their first home win under new boss Tony Adams when they held their nerve to beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2 last week.

Sol Campbell missed out again and with Niko Kranjcar on the bench, Pompey looked short of strength in the midfield. However Glen Johnson almost put the home side ahead in the 4th minute, when he crossed to an unmarked Glen Little, whose finishing touch left much to be desired.

Four minutes later, Peter Crouch almost put the ball into his own net when he glanced at a Brett Emerton corner across his goalmouth. The rest of the first half was a tale of finishing errors with neither goalkeeper tested at all.

However four minutes after the break, Peter Crouch was on target when Johnson's accurate deliver found him unmarked in the box. Crouch's header was well directed and left Robinson stranded. Niko Kranjcar replaced Little at half-time and was active in feeding accurate passes to the two forwards.

Defoe then made it 2-0 when he beat two defenders and went past Robinson to slot home on 53 minutes. The game looked well and truly over, but Matt Derbyshire headed Pedersen's cross into the goal on 62 minutes to give Blackburn some hope. The visitors leveled in the 67th minute when Tugay Kerimoglu beat James with a 25-yarder.

Just when it began to look like a familiar tale for Pompey supporters, Sean Davis slotted home the winner on 79 minutes after Robinson had managed to keep out Papa Bouba Diop's shot.
