Porto 2-1 Marseille

Portuguese giants Porto moved to the top of Group A with a clinical performance in the 2-1 victory over Marseille in their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Lisandro Lopez grabbed the winner for Porto 12 minutes before the final whistle after Mamadou Niang's second half strike had negated Tarik Sektioui's goal that had given Porto the lead in the first half. The win leaves Porto in pole position to qualify to the knockout stages from the group.

Marseille were contain to play a waiting game and retained large portions of the possession in the midfield.

However Porto took the lead near the half hour mark when Sektioui took possession of the ball inside his own half and embark on a brilliant run that saw him beat three Marseille defenders before rounding keeper Steve Mandanda to pass the ball in an empty net.

The hosts then sat back, content to soak up pressure and launch counter attacks for the rest of the half. But Marseille pulled level two minutes into the second half when Niang was the first to meet Laurent Bonnart's cross to head home from close range.

With time ticking away, it looked like a second draw in as many matches between the two teams before Lopez rose high to meet Ricardo Quaresma's cross from the right wing to glance the header past Mandanda to grab all three points for his team.
