Norway 2-2 Greece

Defending champions Greece survived a scare in Oslo as they were held by Norway 2-2 in their Euro 2008 qualifying clash on Wednesday. The draw means Greece retain their top spot in Group C while Norway trail them by two points.

Sotirios Kyrgiakos was the hero for Greece at Oslo. Greece started in fine fashion and required only seven minutes to take the initiative. A corner from Georgios Karagounis reached Kyrgiakos who headed in from close range to stun the home crowd.

However Norway replied almost immediately as John Carew tapped in a good effort on 15 minutes. Norway also had the chance to go ahead just before that, but Greece keeper Konstantinos Chalkias saved the day for Greece by tipping over a Morten Gamst Pedersen volley.

However Greece surged ahead on 30 minutes when Kyrgiakos tapped in from close range following a good save from Norway goalkeeper Håkon Opdal. However Norway once again equalized through John Arne Riise who scored a magnificent goal on 39 minutes as he collected a Jan Gunnar Solli pass.

Both teams had good chances to go ahead in the second half, but were unable to break the deadlock and had to be satisfied with a point each. Greece remain on top of Group C with 19 points from eight games, while Norway are in the second spot with 17 points from nine games.
