After a bright start by the Indomitable Lions, the Dutch gradually took control and missed numerous chances before striker Robin Van Persie opened his tournament account.

The Arsenal frontman latched onto Rafael Van der Vaart’s clever pass and drilling a right-foot shot between Cameroon keeper Souleymanu Hamidou’s legs.

Cameroon equalised from the penalty spot when Van der Vaart handled Geremi’s shot from a free-kick. Samuel Eto’o fired the spot kick high to Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenberg’s right.

Holland grabbed a late winner when star winger Arjen Robben marked his competition debut with a searing left-foot drive from 20 yards.

The ball rebounded off a post to Klaas Jan Huntelaar, who coolly sidefooted the ball into an empty net.
