Middlesbrough 0-1 West Bromwich AlbionWest Bromwich Albion secured their first away win of the season when they registered a narrow 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Jonas Olsson scored the only goal of the match eight minutes into the second half as Middlesbrough once again failed to come good on their early dominance over West Brom who held on to their clean sheet even as Boro came close to equalizing late in the game.
West Brom received an early set back when Do-heon Kim limped off then field in the first minute and was replaced by Sherjill MacDonald. Boro had won all their three matches at the Riverside this season and were keen to maintain the record as West Brom were pegged back in their own half for most of the first half.
Afonso Alves came close to breaking the deadlock for Boro in the 17th minute when he tricked his way to the edge of the penalty area but saw his shot smash against the cross bar. West Brom's first real chance of the match came in the 35th minute when Borja Valero saw his long range effort fly inches high over the cross bar. Olsson showed a glimpse of things to come when he rose high to meet Jonathan Greening's corner but his header was saved by Ross Turnbull.
However Olsson managed to beat Turnbull with his second chance in the 53rd minute when he headed home Greening's corner to put West Brom in the lead. Boro stepped up the pressure late in the game with David Wheater and Gary O'Neill going close to equalizing for the hosts but West Brom hung on to claim three vital points from the tie.
