The French team left it late to gain a victory over the Turkish side and take their place at the top of group A after the other teams in the group could only draw. Marseille may be having problems with their domestic situation but in this live Champions League football match they dominated for most of the match and were rarely threatened from the qualifiers.

After watching his team score two past Besiktas Manager Albert Emon told reporters that he hoped that this was the turning point in their season. For the match they managed to put their domestic troubles behind them to record a confidence winning display that he hopes will improve their fortunes on both fronts.

Marseille didn’t have it all their own way though as Besiktas keeper Hakan Arikan had a very good game and helped to keep the French team at bay with a series of fine saves in the first half. The second half though spelled an end to his heroics when on 76 Julien Rodriguez connected with a Samir Nasri corner kick which hit the post and landed nicely for the French defender to slot home from close range.

With the result hardly ever in doubt it was left to Marseilles striker Djibril Cisse to add a second and make the score line look fair on the night. Marseille will take heart from this result and start to think of progressing to the knock out phase, but for Besiktas manager Ertugrul Saglam and his players, they face a hard task in gaining the points required to move forward in the competition, but with a home game to come they know they must now record a win to stand any chance.
