Manchester United 3-0 Fulham Rooney 46, 84
Berbatov 89 Two more Wayne Rooney goals helped send Manchester United back to the top of the EPL after seeing off a stubborn Fulham side. Rooney combined well with Dimitar Berbatov as United created half-chances on a regular basis before giving the scoreline a convincing look with two late goals. But had Fulham’s Bobby Zamora converted a gilt-edged opportunity on 75 minutes, with the score still 1-0, the result might have been different. Rooney had the best of United’s numerous first-half chances on 10 minutes when he scuffed his close-range shot after neat interplay between Berbatov and Darren Fletcher. And within thirty seconds of the restart, he put paid to Fulham’s plans, playing a one-two with Portuguese wideman Nani and sliding the ball home from ten yards. With fifteen minutes left, a slip by Nemanja Vidic let in Zamora, but the striker was so ponderous with the goal at his mercy that Vidic was able to make a recovering tackle. Schwarzer made a terrific save from Fletcher before Rooney doubled United’s lead with six minutes left after fine work down the right by Berbatov. And the Bulgarian striker nodded home number three a minute from time from Park Ji-Sung’s Beckham-esque right-wing cross.
