Manchester United 3-0 Chelsea

Chelsea's season went from bad to worse as them were convincing beaten 3-0 by Manchester United in their Premier League encounter on Saturday.

Needing to win the match to lift some pressure off manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, Chelsea started the game brightly and dominated the possession early on. However with no width, the visitors were always likely to struggle for chances as they failed to make use of the possession with the United defense easily managing to block their efforts.

The hosts slowly took control of the game with Ryan Giggs and Dimitar Berbatov going close to breaking the deadlock. United looked to have had taken the lead on the stroke of half time when a clever corner routine saw Giggs cross the ball for Ronaldo who headed into the net. However the effort was ruled out by the referee who said that the corner was not taken properly.

However the defending champions were soon in the lead seconds later as Berbatov flicked on Giggs' corner for Nemanja Vidic to head home at the far post. Any hopes for a Chelsea fight back in the second half were dashed as the visitors failed to step up the pressure.

Instead it was United who put the match beyond doubt in the 63rd minute when Patrice Evra crossed the ball for Wayne Rooney who poked in from six yards out. Berbatov rubbed in Chelsea's wounds three minutes from the final whistle when he slotted home Cristiano Ronaldo's free kick to secure a comfortable victory for his side.
