Nani 25 Tchoyi 55 Manchester United failed to keep a two-goal lead for the second time this season, but the first time at Old Trafford, as they were shocked by the buoyant Baggies. Alex Ferguson’s men dominated the opening 45 minutes and although they were gifted both goals, they should have been further ahead at half-time. And they paid for their profligacy when Albion scored twice in the space of five second-half minutes, the second from a howler by veteran United keeper Edwin Van der Sar. They took a fifth-minute lead when Nani’s long-range free-kick was palmed away by Baggies keeper Scott Carson straight to Javier Hernandez, who made no mistake from eight yards.
Nani made it 2-0 on 25 minutes, finishing a neat one-two with Dimitar Berbatov after West Brom full-back Nicky Shorey had gifted him possession near the halfway line. Nemanja Vidic struck the post with a firm header from Nani’s cross shortly after the interval. But Albion pulled a goal back on 50 minutes, United left-back Patrice Evra diverting Chris Brunt’s drilled near-post free-kick into his own net. And five minutes later it was 2-2, Cameroonian EPL debutant Somen Tchoyi tapping-in after Van der Sar inexplicably dropped Brunt’s left-wing, left-footed cross.
