Manchester United 1-0 Bolton

Manchester United moved to the top of the Premier League table with an injury time winner against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

The defending champions failed to breach a stubborn Bolton defense who continued their all out defense strategy that had almost succeeded against Arsenal. However with United stepping up the tempo midway through the game, Bolton had a couple of chances of their own and manager Gary Megson will feel disappointed that his side came out of the tie empty handed.

With Wayne Rooney out injured, Carlos Tevez partnered Dimitar Berbatov up front and the two strikers struggled to make any impact for large portions of the game. The hosts dominated the possession and played high up the pitch, giving Fabrice Muamba enough room to test Edwin Van der Sar with a long range effort that was tipped over by the United keeper.

Cristiano Ronaldo twice went close to breaking the deadlock but Jussi Jaaskelainen pulled off some good saves to keep his side in the game. Just when it looked like Bolton had done enough to collect a point from the game, United snatched all three points in injury time when Tevez crossed the ball for Berbatov to head home the winner from six yards out to spark wild celebrations around the stadium.
