Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal
Manchester United equaled Liverpool's record of 18 league titles with a nervy 0-0 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Needing just one point from the game to lift their third successive league title, United were cautious right from the start as manager Alex Ferguson put in his strongest team in order to wrap up the title chase in front of the home fans for only the second time in his United career.
Robin Van Persie had a great chance early in the game to dampen the atmosphere inside the Theater of Dreams but somehow managed to loop his header wide of the target after Andrey Arshavin had found the Dutchman with a brilliant cross from the right.
Arsenal were dominating the possession but had little to show for their efforts as United put up yet another solid defensive performance. Wayne Rooney had United's best chance in the first half but headed wide of the target from close range.
Cristiano Ronaldo almost wrapped up the tie in the second half with yet another dipping free kick but saw his effort narrowly fly wide of the target. United continued to run down the clock with Ferguson going on the defensive by bringing on Park Ji Sung in place of Carlos Tevez.
Sensing blood, Arsenal stepped up the pressure and almost broke the deadlock seven minutes from the final whistle but his shot smashed against the crossbar. Van Persie had two great chances to snatch a win for his side but was unable to beat Edwin Van der Sar as United hung on to collect a point that saw them lift the title for a third successive season.
