Manchester City 0-0 Wigan AthleticManchester City's barren run at home extended to six matches as they were held to a 0-0 draw by relegation battlers Wigan Athletic in their Premier League clash on Saturday.
City dominated the few chances through out the match but were let down by a combination of good defending and poor finishing with new signing Benjani being particularly wasteful in front of the goal. Steve Bruce on the other hand will be delighted with the point as his side continued the fight to avoid relegation this season.
Manchester City were clearly missing Martin Petrov and Micah Richards as they struggled to break down a stubborn Wigan defense. The first real chance came in the 23rd minute when Stephen Ireland saw his shot curl inches wide of the post.
Benjani should have put City in the lead minutes later but a poor first touch allowed Chris Kirkland to pluck the ball off the striker's feet. The hosts received a set back two minutes into the second half when Elano was carried out of the pitch with a leg injury.
Benjani had another chance to break the deadlock as he latched on to a pass from Felipe Caicedo but his shot on the turn was saved comfortably by Kirkland. Wigan were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure foraying into the City defense on the counter but with little success.
However the visitors could have snatched all three points late in the game when Wilson Palacios was set up by Emile Heskey but Joe Hart blocked the shot to ensure that his side will come out with at least a point from the game.
