Manchester City 6-0 PortsmouthManchester City bounced back from their defeat to Chelsea in a spectacular fashion to demolish Portsmouth 6-0 on Sunday.
City were in control of the match right from the kick off and were up 2-0 by half time thanks to goals by Jo and Richard Dunne. Robinho scored his second goal in as many games while Shaun Wright-Phillips added the fourth in the 68th minute. Ched Evans and Fernandes Gelson were also on target as City cruised to a well deserved victory with Portsmouth struggling to create any real chances.
It City all City right from the kick off as David James pulled off a brilliant save to deny Robinho from close range. James then raced off his lines to clear Robinho's through ball with Wright-Phillips rushing to meet the pass.
It was not long before City managed to break down the Pompey defense with Brazilian striker Jo racing forward to meet Robinho's pass, rounding James before passing the ball into an empty net. Portsmouth's only chance of the half fell to Peter Crouch who headed it high over the bar.
City doubled the lead in the 20th minute when Dunne latched on to a block from a Elano corner to slot home from three yards out. The hosts stepped up the pressure in the second half and were rewarded in the 57th minute when Jo latched on to a long ball from Ireland before passing the ball for Robinho who made no mistake from close range.
Wright-Phillips continued his impressive return to form since his move back to City by scoring the fourth goal of the match in the 68th minute to put the result beyond Portsmouth's reach. Evans added a fifth 10 minutes later with Robinho once again the architect while Fernandes completed the proceedings by slotting home a sixth goal for City after James had spilled the ball under pressure from Wright-Phillips.
