Manchester City 3-1 Middlesbrough

Manchester City maintained their 100 percent home record with yet another clinical display in the 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough in their Premiership match on Sunday.

Man City had taken an early lead through a Chris Riggott own goal and Elano continued his great form with two goals in either half before Middlesbrough got one back late in the game as City won their 5th home game in a row to maintain their position in the top three of the table.

With Middlesbrough lacking any fit strikers, Gareth Southgate gave 20-year-old Tom Craddock his Premiership debut, but Boro seldom threatened Joe Hart in the City goal. Man City took the lead in the 10th minute when Riggott deflected the ball into his own net after rushing forward to clear Martin Petrov's corner.

Boro pressed forward in search of an equalizer and almost got it on the half hour mark through Lee Cattermole, but the midfielder found his free header fly wide of the target. Coty doubled the lead minutes later through a swift counterattack that found Elano free near the edge of the area and the Brazilian made no mistake in slotting the ball past Mark Schwarzer.

Though Boro were looking good in the midfield, they were unable to provide any threats on the City goal and Elano put the result beyond Boro's reach in the 63rd minute when he hit another brilliant free kick after Mpenza was fouled on the edge of the area.

The visitors finally got one back in the 89th minute when Ben Hutchinson latched on to a rebound to slot home from close range, but it was too little too late for Boro as Man City claimed all three points in what proved to be a comfortable outing for Sven Goran Eriksson's team.
