Manchester City 3-0 West HamA great performance in the second half saw Manchester City register their first victory of the season with a 3-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.
After a quiet opening to the game, West Ham were reduced to 10 men after Mark Noble was sent off in the 37th minute. City made full use of their numerical superiority by breaking the deadlock in the 65th minute through Daniel Sturridge while two goals in space of 6 minutes by Elano secured City's first win in the Premiership.
Manchester City were keen to bounce back from their disappointing defeats to FC Midtjylland and Aston Villa and were on the attack right from the kick off. The hosts dominated the possession against a team that was lacking the creative spark in the midfield.
Manchester City nearly took an early lead when a goal mouth scramble saw Calum Davenport head Stephen Ireland's shot off the line and deflect Tal Ben Haim's follow up effort against the cross bar. Martin Petrov struck the post from a free kick as City threatened to run away with the game.
The hosts were handed a boost in the 37th minute when Noble, who was already booked for a hand ball, was shown a second yellow card following a horrific tackle on Michael Johnson. City stepped up the pressure in the second half and were rewarded in the 65th minute when Sturridge latched on to a poor clearance by Matthew Upson before slotting the ball past Robert Green.
The result was all but confirmed five minutes later when Corluka, Ireland and Elano combined well for the Brazilian midfielder to score his first goal of the match. The trio combined once again six minutes later with the same result as City notched up a third through Elano to claim all three points from the match.
