Manchester City 1-0 ChelseaTevez 59 Captain Carlos Tevez gave big-spending Manchester City victory at Eastlands against EPL leaders Chelsea, who lost their 100% record in the process. Both defences were extremely well-organised and dominated the game. But just before the hour, City hit Chelsea on the break from a Blues’ corner. Tevez ran onto a Yaya Toure pass from the halfway line and fired home through Ashley Cole’s legs and past a static Petr Cech’s right-hand from the edge of the penalty area. Chances were particularly at a premium in the first half and the best of them fell to the visitors. On 27 minutes, right-back Branislav Ivanovic hit the underside of the crossbar with a close-range header after Alex had nodded the ball back into the danger area from Florent Malouda’s left-wing, far-post cross. And a minute before the break, a well-placed Michael Essien blazed over left-footed from Didier Drogba’s left-wing cross. City’s David Silva nearly beat Cech at the near post on with a low left-foot drive, four minutes before the goal. Essien had a series of long-range strikes, but Alex’s 77th minute header wide, six yards out, from Malouda’s cross was the closest they came to an equaliser.
