Man City 2-1 TottenhamManchester City revived their bid for a European slot at the end of the season with a convincing 2-1 win over Tottenham at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday. The win was Manchester City's first home win over Spurs in over four years.
Tottenham began the game on a high with Robbie Keane going close in the fourth minute itself. Benjani Mwaruwari and Nery Castillo then made a wonderful move, which was stopped by Woodgate, but City failed to capitalize on the resulting corner.
Vedran Corluka committed an error in the 32nd minute, which allowed Tottenham to take the lead through Robbie Keane. Pascal Chimbonda was the supplier from the left wing. Man City gave a fitting response soon after with Elano forcing Paul Robinson to execute a diving save.
Castillo could have equalized in the dying minutes of the first half, but he delayed his shot. After the break, Benjani had a fine chance to equalize, but his shot was blocked by Woodgate. Tom Huddlestone replaced Lennon at the start of the half, but the move made no difference as Spur were content to sit behind and defend their lead.
City finally equalized after the 59th minute when he slotted in Elano's header from a Benjani cross. Tottenham then affected a double substitution as Jamie O'Hara came on for Malbranque and Darren Bent replaced Keane.
In the 71st minute, City won a corner and Onuoha headed home from Elano's fine cross. Tottenham pressed hard for an equalizer, but were unable to break City's defense, which did a fine job even in the absence of Micah Richards.
