F.Y.R. Macedonia were unable to pull off a win over Estonia despite being on top for major periods in their Group E clash in Skopje on Wednesday. The win makes no difference to the leader board in Group E, but nevertheless Macedonia were hopeful of scoring a home win.

It was Estonia who set the pace in the match attacking with vigor from very early on. Their attacking instincts proved to be fruitful as Raio Piiroja gave them the lead in the 17th minute. Macedonia goalkeeper Petar Milosevski had no chance of stopping the right-footed drive unleashed by Piiroja.

F.Y.R. Macedonia drove hard for an equalizer and were rewarded in the 30th minute through Goran Maznov who headed in Darko Tasevski's in swinging corner. Piiroja had a chance to put the visitors ahead, but his header off Joel Lindpere's corner went just wide.

Macedonia coach Srečko Katanec would have had harsh words for his men after the end of the first half and his words seemed to have an effect as Macedonia swung into action Maznov had another chance after substitute Artim Polozani was fouled, but his header off the free kick went inches wide.

F.Y.R. Macedonia forward, Aco Stojkov also had a golden chance to kill the game late on, but Estonia keeper Pavel Londak was alert to ward him off.

F.Y.R. Macedonia occupy the fifth place in Group E with 8 points from nine games, while Estonia are placed sixth with four points from 10 games.
