Liverpool 4-0 Blackburn Rovers

Liverpool stayed in the hunt for their first Premier League since 1990 after they trashed Blackburn Rovers 4-0 at Anfield over the weekend. The win takes the Reds to the second spot on the league table with 70 points from 32 games; just one point behind Manchester United who do have a game in hand.

The Reds struck after just five minutes when star striker Fernando Torres beat Rovers keeper Paul Robinson with a stunning volley that was probably the goal fo this season. That goal inspired Liverpool, who began to make random raids into Blackburn's penalty area.

Torres was on target again in the 33rd minute when he headed in another great goal from a Xabi Alonso free-kick to put the game well and truly beyond Blackburn.

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce replaced Aaron Mokoena with Aaron Doran at the break, but Liverpool were simply too good for the Ewood Park outfit. On 59 minutes Carlos Villanueva came on for Dunn, but Blackburn were unable to make any meaningful attacks into the Liverpool territory.

Liverpool also made major changes with Torres making way for Nabil El Zhar after 73 minutes. However that did not make any difference as Daniel Agger scored a brilliant goal from 40 yards out on 83 minutes. The rout was complete when David Ngog headed in a fourth with minutes left o the clock.

Reds manager Rafa Benitez will be pleased that his side managed to win comfortably without Steven Gerrard, who missed out with a groin injury.
