Hull City 2-2 Everton

Hull City came close to staging an upset when they held Everton to a 2-2 draw in their Premier League clash on Sunday.

Hull had looked on course for a shock victory after taking a 2-0 lead four minutes into the second half but a superb fight back from Everton saw them first reduce the deficit through Tim Cahill, albeit in a controversial manner, while Leon Osman equalized for the visitors with just 12 minutes remaining.

With Everton stuttering in the league, Hull fancied their chances of coming away with all three points and started the game brightly as Bernard Mendy twice went close to breaking the deadlock but was unable to hit the back of the net.

Hull took a deserved lead in the 18th minute when Turner beat the challenge of Marouane Fellaini to head home Marney's corner. Everton hit back immediately and could have been level a minute later when Yakubu shot from outside the area was saved brilliantly by Boaz Myhill.

That chance was one of the very few bright spots for Everton in the first half and though manager David Moyes ringed up changes at half time, the Toffees looked set for another defeat when Hull doubled the lead in the 49th minute with Marney once again the creator as his corner bounced off Phil Neville's head and into the goal.

Stung by the goal, Everton stepped up the pressure and looked in control of the proceedings for the first time in the match as Louis Saha and Lescott both went close to scoring a goal. The Hull defense finally buckled under pressure in the 73rd minute when Cahill's drive hit the underside of the post and the linesman ruled that the ball had bounced over the line.

Everton were back on level terms five minutes later when Yakubu and Saha combined well in the Hull penalty area to cross the ball for Osman who was left with a simple finish from close range. Saha almost grabbed all three points for Everton but his shot hit the side netting, leaving both teams with a point each.
