Hull City 0-5 Wigan AthleticHull City suffered their first defeat in the Premier League when they were thrashed 5-0 by Wigan Athletic at the KC Stadium on Saturday.
An own goal by Samuel Ricketts had put Wigan in an early lead while Antonio Valencia doubled the lead in the 13th minute. Amr Zaki scored his first of the night three minutes past the hour mark and added a second in the 81st minute after Emile Heskey had scored the fourth for Wigan.
It was a comprehensive victory for Wigan who struggled to stamp their authority over Hull City. The visitors took the lead in the fourth minute when Ricketts was unable to connect the ball properly as he tried to clear Kevin Kilbane's corner and inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net.
Wigan doubled the lead 9 minutes later when Valencia latched on to a pass by Zaki before slotting it past Boaz Myhill. Hull tried to step up the pressure in the second half and came close to reducing the deficit when Richard Garcia hit a stinging drive towards that target but was denied by a brilliant save by Kirkland.
Wigan put the result beyond doubt in the 63rd minute when Zaki slotted home Valencia's low cross to score his third goal of the season. Heskey added the fourth five minutes later after a poor clearance by Wayne Brown.
Zaki piled more misery on Hull in the 81st minute when he scored his second of the night to complete a convincing win for Wigan. Tags: Wigan Athletic, Amr Zaki, Hull City, Boaz Myhill, Wayne Brown Posted: |
