Fulham 3-1 ReadingFulham chalked up its first victory in over 10 games with a clinical performance in the 3-1 win over a lackluster Reading side at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Fulham had taken the lead early in the first half through a superb volley by Simon Davies. Reading drew level nine minutes into the second half through Kevin Doyle but Clint Dempsey restored the lead in the 72nd minute before David Healy added the third in the final minute of the game.
The hosts took a shock lead after a quiet first half when Marcus Hahnemann pulled off a good save to deny Aaron Hughes. Reading were unable to clear the corner and the ball fell straight into the path of Davis who smashed home a stinging volley past the Reading keeper.
However Reading pulled level in the 54th minute when Antti Niemi failed to collect a corner after committing himself, leaving Doyle with a simple header to grab the equalizer. The Fulham manager tried to change things by bringing on Shefki Kuqi and Healy replacing Hameur Bouazza and Diomansy Kamara.
And it proved to be inspired substitutions with both the players linking up well to play in Dempsey for the second goal. Dejan Stefanovic did well to keep the ball in play and find Healy on the right who crossed the ball into the area to find Kuqi. Though his header was blocked by the Reading defense, the ball fell straight to Dempsey who coolly prodded the ball into the net from close range.
The visitors pressed forward in search of an equalizer while Fulham were content to sit back and soak up the pressure. With time running out, Healy put the result beyond doubt when Davis found the striker with a perfect cross after a quick counter attack and the 28-year old made no mistake in the final minute of the game.
