Fulham 2 -2 Manchester United Davies 67 Scholes 11
Hangeland 84 Hangeland (og) 89 Manchester United were held to a draw at Craven Cottage after an exciting game with a very dramatic climax. Manchester United must have thought they’d sealed victory when Fulham’s Brede Hangeland put through his own net with six minutes remaining to put them 2-1 up and Damien Duff conceded an unfortunate penalty two minutes later. However, Fulham’s goalkeeper David Stockdale made a fine right-handed save from Nani’s spot-kick. And Hangeland and Duff made complete amends on 89 minutes when the centre-half headed home Duff’s right-wing corner. The Red Devils went ahead on 11 minutes. Dimitar Berbatov’s spectacular right-footed overhead-kick was superbly saved by Stockdale. But the keeper’s acrobatics were for nought as Paul Scholes drilled a magnificent low, curling 25-yard drive into the corner of the net from the half-cleared resultant corner. Visiting keeper Edwin Van der Sar made a brilliant double save from Dickson Etuhu shortly before half-time. But he could do nothing to stop Simon Davies’ right-foot shot from Bobby Zamora’s pull-back on 57 minutes. United regained the lead when Nani’s corner rebounded into the net off Hangeland’s left knee. But that just set up a breathtaking climax and a deserved share of the spoils for the Cottagers.
