Fulham 0-2 Portsmouth

Fulham sunk lower into the relegation zone on Saturday as they went down 0-2 to Portsmouth in a Premiership encounter at Craven Cottage. This was Pompey's fourth win in a row away to Fulham.

Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez has a relegation battle on his hands and he probably knows it. However his side had the better of the exchanges in the first half and looked to be on course to record a rare home win against Portsmouth.

However Fulham failed to find the net when it mattered and hence frittered away a fine chance for gaining three points and slipping out of the bottom three. Both keepers had to be alert in the first half and David James was tested early on by Clint Dempsey's 25-yard drive.

James managed to push it away to keep the scores 0-0. Sulley Muntari's left-foot strike then tested Kasey Keller, who did well to get down in time to save the ball from reaching the goal. John Utaka then collected James' throw and managed to outfox Hameur Bouazza and then Paul Konchesky before Keller saved his fierce drive.

After the break, Benjani was in fine form as he found his way away from Carlos Bocanegra to collect a pass from Sean Davis and fire home in the 50th minute. Fulham had barely recovered from this reverse when Niko Kranjcar's pass found Hermann Hreidarsson, whose fine shot took a deflection off Chris Baird. to leave Keller helpless.

Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez rang in quick changes in the form of Diomansy Kamara, Danny Murphy and Seol for Healy, Baird and Alexei Smertin, but the home side were unable to break down a resolute Pompey defence and slipped to another defeat.

Fulham next welcome Derby, while Portsmouth travel to Wigan on October 20.
