Fulham 0-2 Chelsea

 

Chelsea continued their fine start to the season beating Fulham 0-2 at Craven Cottage in the London derby to sit pretty at the top of the premiership table equal on points with Tottenham.

 

The Blues had to come back from a goal down in their previous two games against Hull City and Sunderland, but this time it was a different story. Michael Ballack could have given Chelsea the lead in the 12th minute itself when Didier Drogba won a free kick at the edge of the penalty box. However the German ace shot just a yard over.

John Obi Mikel unleashed a fierce drive from 20 yards out in the 21st minute, but his hot flew just wide much to the relief of the Cottagers goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. Didier Drogba finally broke the deadlock in the 39th minute of the game when Nicolas Anelka's delicate through ball landed at his feet.

 

Drogba's fine connection made a mockery of experts who felt the Ivory Coast international could not pair up with Anelka. Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho almost scored an own goal in the 50th minute when he headed over Murphy's cross. It was in the 76th minute that Chelsea sealed the game when Drogba returned the favour by passing to Anelka who shot in his first goal of the campaign.

 

Manager Carlo Ancelotti was delighted with his side's showing and insisted that Drogba and Anelka could play together, while Fulham boss Roy Hodgson will hope his side can pull up their socks for their next game.
