France 2-0 Ecuador - International friendly

Bafetimbi Gomis complicated Raymond Domenech's selection headache as he scored a brace to hand France a 2-0 win over Ecuador at the Stade des Alpes in Grenoble. The St. Etienne striker, a surprise inclusion in Domenech's provisional squad, became the first Frenchman to score a brace on debut since Zinedine Zidane did so against the Czech Republic in 1994.

Gomis replaced Djibril Cisse, who had a lacklustre first half, at the break, and scored France's first goal just before the hour mark, with a powerful shot into the top corner from inside the Ecuador box. Carlos Tenorio earlier had a glorious opportunity to put the South Americans ahead in the first half, but was denied by a goal line clearance from French skipper Lilian Thuram. It was again Gomis who scored in the 85th minute, volleying past Marcelo Elizaga from Nicolas Anelka's cross.

France now play Paraguay in Toulouse on Saturday, followed by a friendly against Colombia on June 3.
