Fenerbahce 2-0 PSV Eindhoven

Turkish giants Fenerbahce moved one step closer to clinching qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League with a clinical performance in the 2-0 win over PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.

Fenerbahce went ahead through an own goal by Dirk Marcellis in the 28th minute before Senturk Semih doubled the lead two minutes later to grab a vital victory over PSV that leaves the Turkish club on the brink of qualifying to the knockout stages. PSV now has four points from four matches, four points behind second placed Fenerbahce with just two games to go.

The hosts looked in control of the game right from the start but the first real chance of the match came in 23rd minute when Roberto Carlos flashed a trademark free kick inches wide of the target. Fenerbahce took the lead in the 28th minute when Kazım Kazım was played in after some good work by Semih and Alex on the right wing and the striker's shot took a wicked deflection off Marcellis to fly into the net past Gomes.

Two minutes later Alex and Semih combined well once again and the latter latched on to Alex's pass to slot the ball past a helpless Gomes to doubled Fenerbahce's lead. Alex could have got on the score sheet himself in the 34th minute but his attempted lob flew inches over the cross bar.

It was Fenerbahce all the way in the second half as Kazim, Semih and Alex all had shots on target but were unable to beat Gomes. With PSV Eindhoven unable to create any chances, the hosts shut up shop in the final minutes of the game to complete a comfortable victory over their opponents.
