Everton 0-1 Manchester UnitedManchester United secured their third consecutive victory with a polished performance in the 1-0 victory over Everton in their Premiership clash on Saturday. Nemanja Vidic scored his first goal of the season seven minutes from time as United maintained their winning streak after a poor start to their season. Both the teams created chances as Everton strikers posed problems for the United defense, but were unable to break through. Everton defended well in the first half as Leighton Baines was able to keep Cristiano Ronaldo quite on the flanks as United struggled to create chances. Both of the teams had equal share in possession, but ere unable to supply the final ball to their strikers as the ball spent most of its time in the midfield. Things brightened in the second half as Everton created the first real chance of the match when Andy Johnson rose high to meet Mikel Arteta's corner from the right but saw his header cleared off the line by Paul Scholes after Edwin Van der Sar was left stranded at the near post. United hit back immediately as Carlos Tevez and Ryan Giggs combined well on the left wing to set up Scholes, but the midfielder managed to sky his shot with just the keeper to beat. Tevez then created a chance to break his duck for United but saw his long range volley flash just over the bar. Just when it looked like it would yet another disappointing day for Manchester United, the visitors struck with just seven minutes remaining. Nani curled in a corner to the near post and Vidic raced forward to meet the ball and headed home past Stefan Wessels to break the deadlock. Everton pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but were unable to break a stubborn United defense, leaving United with their third victory in as many matches. The win lifts United into fourth position in the league two points behind Arsenal while Everton drop down to 7th position.
