Everton 0-2 LiverpoolEverton slumped to their second straight defeat in the league as they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in their Premier League clash on Saturday.
In a match marred by constant fouls, Liverpool dominated the possession and the chances as they took the lead through Fernando Torres in the 59th minute before the Spanish international doubled the lead three minutes later as Everton ended the match with 10 men after Tim Cahill was sent off.
Liverpool could have gone top of the league table, at least until Chelsea played against Stoke City, and the visitors were on the attack right from the kick off. However though Liverpool dominated the possession, they were unable to break past a solid Everton defense, with constant interruptions not helping their cause.
Everton created the best chance of the first half in the 13th minute when Mikel Arteta found Cahill with a superb cross but the midfielder was unable to hit the target from eight yards out. Liverpool were getting frustrated with Everton's physical approach, prompting Mike Riley to warn Torres after the Spanish striker made his displeasure clear over the referee's reluctance of ruling in the visitors' favor.
Liverpool stepped up the pressure in the second half and were rewarded in the 59th minute when Robbie Keane found Torres with a great cross at the far post and the Spanish striker made no mistake from close range.
Torres added a second three minutes later when he was the quickest to react to the rebound after Phil Jagielka tackled Dirk Kuyt, leaving the 24-year old striker with a simple finish to put the result beyond Everton's reach. Any hopes of a come back by the hosts were extinguished in the 80th minute when Cahill was shown a straight red for a foul on Xabi Alonso.
