Derby County 0-6 Aston VillaDerby County suffered yet another humiliating defeat of their disastrous campaign as they were thrashed 6-0 by Aston Villa at Pride Park on Saturday.
Villa took the lead in the 25th minute through Ashley Young before goals from John Carew and Stiliyan Petrov made it 3-0 by half time. The visitors continued their domination in the second half with Gareth Barry, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Marlon Harewood hitting the target to complete the rout.
Villa dominated the match right from the kick off and after a quiet opening few minutes took a deserved lead in the 25th minute when Young curled in a free kick from 30 yards out and Derby keeper Roy Carroll failed to clear the danger as the ball drifted into the net.
The goal opened the floodgates for Aston Villa who doubled the lead a minute later when Carew latched on to a poor clearance by Carroll to slot home from close range. It was 3-0 ten minutes later Petrov latched on to a long clearance by the Villa defense before smashing the ball over Carroll's head from 45 yards out.
Villa continued to press forward in the second half and were rewarded with a fourth goal 8 minutes after the break when Carroll managed to stop Agbonlahor's initial shot but Barry was on hand to convert from the rebound.
Agbonlahor was himself on the score sheet in the 75th minute when he latched on to a defensive mistake to race forward before coolly slotting home past Carroll. Marlon Harewood completed the rout in the 85th minute, latching on to Patrik Berger's pass before smashing it past a helpless Carroll to give his side their biggest win of the season.
